Ellen DeGeneres departed from the United States last year after Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.

DeGeneres, aged 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi sold their Montecito estate in August and acquired a farmhouse in the U.K.

The relocation was initially planned as a temporary endeavor for the couple to spend a few months in the UK, but DeGeneres made the decision to make it permanent after Trump’s win in November.

“We arrived here the day before the election and woke up to numerous text messages from our friends with sad emojis, and I thought, ‘He won’,” she revealed during her first appearance in the UK after the move. “And we decided, ‘We’re staying here’.”

She has kept relatively quiet about her new life in the English countryside, but she does keep her fans informed about farm life on social media.

“It’s incredibly beautiful,” she shared. “We’re not accustomed to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages, towns, and architecture – everything is charming, and it’s a simpler way of life. It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the treatment of animals, polite people. I simply adore it here.”

DeGeneres expressed, “We relocated here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I experienced snow for the first time in my life. We adore it here. Portia brought her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”

She recently showed support for fellow comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who also left the US following Trump’s election.

DeGeneres gave Rosie a public shout out the day after the president threatened to strip O’Donnell of her US citizenship after she moved to Ireland earlier this year.

O’Donnell swiftly responded to Trump’s attack on her in several posts shared on her social media platforms.

Earlier this year, O’Donnell admitted she was surprised to learn why DeGeneres left the US.

While their relationship may not be strong, O’Donnell emphasized that she holds no animosity towards the comedian.
