President Donald Trump’s significant bill was recently signed into law, with Republican lawmakers celebrating various victories in the extensive tax and spending legislation.

This includes a substantial amount of funding aimed at Trump’s efforts to address illegal immigration in the United States. Almost $30 billion is allocated for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with an additional $45 billion designated for expanding detention facility capacity.

House Republicans, in discussions with Fox News Digital, expressed their approval of the increased funding, despite criticisms of the Trump administration’s approach to the issue.

“Having the resources to work on the wall along the southern border, hiring more agents, increasing their pay, investing in technology, and securing the border is extremely important,” stated Rep. David Kustoff, R-Tenn. “President Trump considers this to be the most crucial issue of the 2024 election.”

Rep. Michael Guest, R-Tenn., who leads the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement on the House Homeland Security Committee, emphasized the importance of the detention facility funding.

Guest encouraged ICE to utilize these funds for more targeted enforcement actions against illegal immigrants.

As some individuals on both ends of the political spectrum have cautioned against excessive measures in apprehending suspected illegal immigrants who do not pose a known threat, Guest stressed the importance of focused enforcement efforts.

“I believe that ICE should focus on targeted enforcement, prioritizing individuals who have committed crimes in the United States or in their country of origin, as well as those with final removal orders,” Guest stated. “The American public overwhelmingly supports apprehending these individuals.”

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., pointed out that ICE had long been advocating for this funding increase.

“Tom Homan has been requesting additional funds for quite some time. Despite facing opposition, particularly from sanctuary cities, he needs the funding to carry out his duties,” Norman remarked. “At the very least, we were able to provide the necessary resources, and we did.”

Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., expressed hope that the enhanced border security and immigration enforcement would contribute to combating the ongoing drug crisis in the United States.

“To secure the border and address criminal illegal immigrants who are causing harm to American citizens through violent acts, we need a robust immigration enforcement system,” Van Orden added.

Reps. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, and Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., also highlighted the funding for Trump’s border wall and additional ICE personnel, respectively.

The bill was passed by the House earlier in the month and was signed into law by Trump on Independence Day.

In addition to funding immigration-related operations, the legislation extends key components of Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), eliminates certain green energy subsidies from the Biden administration, and introduces new work requirements for federal assistance programs.
