Rebecca De Mornay has nothing but admiration for her former co-star and ex-partner, Tom Cruise, from the movie “Risky Business.”

De Mornay and Cruise first met on the set of the film in 1982 and dated for nearly three years after its release in 1983.

“I’m really proud of him,” the 65-year-old recently shared with Page Six regarding Cruise.

De Mornay praised Cruise as a “major chord” while referring to herself as “a minor chord.” She emphasized Cruise’s ambition and drive to achieve his dreams.

She expressed, “He is a brilliant interpreter of the zeitgeist. I’m really proud of knowing him from when we were filming ‘Risky Business’ and seeing how far he has come.”

De Mornay’s most recent project was the thriller “Saint Claire,” where she starred alongside Bella Thorne and Ryan Phillippe. The film follows the story of a female serial killer obsessed with Joan of Arc.

In “Risky Business,” Tom Cruise played Joel Goodsen, a high school student who encounters a prostitute named Lana, portrayed by De Mornay. The film earned Cruise his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Following the success of “Risky Business,” Cruise went on to star in blockbuster hits like “Top Gun” and the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

De Mornay, who was 24 at the time of the film’s release, found herself thrust into fame rapidly. Reflecting on the experience, she shared, “Tom and I were together when the movie came out, and we had photographers jumping out of bushes, the pre-paparazzi days.”

After playing Lana, De Mornay was often seen as a sex symbol. To break away from this stereotype, she took on diverse roles, such as a railway worker in “Runaway Train” in 1985.

De Mornay emphasized, “I am an actress, and I could be a sex symbol, but I am an actress, first and foremost.”

Throughout her career, De Mornay has chosen roles carefully, balancing her acting career with motherhood. She aimed to portray strong female characters in her work.

De Mornay admitted, “It’s always been important to me to choose roles where there [is] some model of strength to women, regardless of what they do or how they do it.”

A recent study has found that people who regularly eat spicy foods may have a lower risk of death from certain conditions. Researchers analyzed data from over 485,000 people in China and found that those who consumed spicy foods 6 or 7 days a week had a 14% lower risk of death compared to those who ate spicy foods less than once a week. The study linked the consumption of spicy foods to a lower risk of death from cancer, heart disease, and respiratory diseases.

The researchers noted that capsaicin, the active component in chili peppers, may play a role in the health benefits of spicy foods. Capsaicin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties. However, more research is needed to determine the exact mechanisms behind the health benefits of spicy foods.

While the study found a correlation between spicy food consumption and a lower risk of death, it does not prove causation. It is important to remember that a healthy diet and lifestyle overall are key factors in reducing the risk of chronic diseases. So, while adding some spicy foods to your diet may have some health benefits, it is not a cure-all.
