Sophie Cunningham, a star player for the Indiana Fever, has been outspoken this season and is facing a fine from the WNBA for her recent actions.

Cunningham disclosed that she received a $500 fine for a TikTok post where she criticized “some refs” in the WNBA.

“I got fined $500 for this TikTok,” Cunningham wrote with laughing emojis. “I don’t know why this is funny to me…like ok, you got it bud! Cause there’s not more important things to be worried about with our league right now.”

In the video, Cunningham wrote “@ some refs” and lip-synced the lyrics from Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Manchild.”

“Stupid. Or is it slow? Maybe, it’s useless,” the song went as Cunningham lip-synced the words.

While she didn’t provide further details, the “more important things to be worried about” that Cunningham likely referenced may relate to the ongoing negotiations between the league and the players’ union over a new collective bargaining agreement.

“You can just tell Cathy to pay us, and then we can have a discussion,” Cunningham remarked in a conversation with a reporter when asked about the WNBA season length.

Cunningham has previously criticized referees and the league for not protecting her teammate Caitlin Clark. She has been vocal about defending Clark on and off the court.

Cunningham has gained a significant following on social media since joining the Fever this season after playing for the Phoenix Mercury for six years. She has been a key player for the team, averaging 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and shooting 40% from three-point range in her 23.5 minutes per game off the bench.
