Georgia commit Chace Calicut charged with felony in road rage incident

A Georgia football recruit, Chace Calicut, was recently arrested in Texas and is facing a second-degree felony charge related to a violent driving incident involving a gun, as per online records. Calicut, a 17-year-old football player at North Shore High School, was taken into custody for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an alleged road rage altercation that included gunshots being fired.

According to court documents, Calicut and another individual were driving in a black Cadillac Escalade in Harris County, Texas, when they engaged in a road rage incident with another vehicle. The victim claimed that Calicut drove aggressively, at one point brandishing a handgun from the Cadillac.

The victim managed to escape, but reported hearing gunshots fired in their direction during the pursuit. The motive behind the incident remains unclear, but the victims mentioned previous threats made by Calicut.

Calicut, who is set to turn 18 soon, is currently in custody with a bond of $75,000. The University of Georgia, to which Calicut had committed, has not yet provided a statement on the situation.

Calicut, a highly-rated defensive back, had recently chosen Georgia over other prominent schools like Texas and Michigan. In an earlier interview, he praised Georgia’s program and coaching staff for their work ethic and discipline.

Calicut emphasized the rigorous and competitive environment at Georgia, stating that he values the coaches’ no-nonsense approach and the need to earn one’s place on the team.
