Arch Manning compared to Vince Young in latest college football rankings

High expectations await Arch Manning as he steps into his new role as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, despite having only started two games in his career so far.

Former Texas and North Carolina head coach Mack Brown drew a bold comparison between Manning and legendary Longhorns quarterback Vince Young.

“He also seems like he listens. He’s very humble,” Brown said on “The Stampede.” “He said too much has been written about me, more than I’ve accomplished. I mean, he is kind of self-deprecating. But I like it. He’s a whole lot like Vince at the same age.”

Young’s breakout season came in his junior year when he led the Longhorns to a national championship victory over USC, showcasing his talent with 3,036 passing yards and 26 touchdown passes.

Brown commended Manning for his conduct during SEC Media Days and how he handled questions about other coaches’ comments about him.

With a strong media presence and a football lineage that includes his father Cooper Manning, uncles Peyton and Eli Manning, and grandfather Archie Manning, Arch Manning is set to prove himself on the field.

Despite recording 939 passing yards and nine touchdown passes last season, Manning’s true test as a starter will come against the defending national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, on Aug. 30.
