FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican is pushing for the unsealing of all court documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in an effort to determine the seriousness of Democrats in bringing transparency to the situation.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., is set to introduce a resolution on Thursday that urges federal and state courts to “immediately unseal all materials, including grand jury materials” from any criminal investigation or prosecution involving Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Mullin’s move comes amid a wave of chaos in Congress over the handling of the Epstein files by the Trump administration. Congressional Democrats have seized on the Epstein investigation and the alleged lack of transparency from the administration as a focal point in recent weeks.
The House was engulfed in turmoil over the Epstein saga, with bipartisan calls for the information to be made public. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., even adjourned the House early due to the controversy.
In the Senate, Democrats are also demanding the immediate release of the files.
However, Mullin’s resolution aims not only to promote transparency and protect any sensitive information about victims that may be contained in the documents, but also to test the commitment of Senate Democrats to their calls for disclosure.
Last week, Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., attempted to force a vote on a resolution similar to Mullin’s, seeking the release of documents related to Epstein. Mullin blocked the move, accusing Gallego of engaging in “political theater.”
He questioned why Democrats had not pursued transparency on the Epstein case during the Biden administration, accusing them of being complicit in covering up for the former president.
Mullin’s action marks the first initiative from a Senate Republican demanding the public release of Epstein-related court documents. It aligns with the directive from former President Trump to Attorney General Pam Bondi to disclose all relevant Grand Jury testimony.
However, this effort faced a setback on Wednesday when a judge appointed by former President Obama rejected the Justice Department’s request to unseal court files related to Epstein.
