A man from Senegal, who was in the country illegally, has been accused of attacking U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and other detainees with a dangerous weapon.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed the charges against Bass Ndiaye in a statement released on Thursday.

According to the statement, Ndiaye was taken into custody on July 17 and transported to a federal immigration facility in New York City for processing.

While waiting for processing, Ndiaye allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and tried to attack ICE officers and around a dozen other detainees. He was swiftly disarmed and subdued by ICE officials.

The statement mentioned that Ndiaye is in the country due to the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policies. He was apprehended at the southern border by federal authorities in October 2023 but was released into the interior.

He now faces a charge of assaulting a U.S. officer with a dangerous weapon. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton.

This incident comes as ICE officers are experiencing an over 800% surge in assaults compared to the previous year, as reported by the DHS.

“This criminal illegal alien who was released into the country under President Biden will face justice for his violent actions,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Our ICE law enforcement officers are encountering an 830% increase in assaults against them.

“DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stands with the courageous men and women of law enforcement as they put their lives at risk to remove criminal illegal aliens and safeguard Americans.”

The agency has attributed the rise in assaults on ICE officers to Democrats and the mainstream media, accusing them of spreading misinformation and inciting violence.

The agency also pointed fingers at congressional Democrats who were reportedly involved in doxxing and physically assaulting ICE officials.

McLaughlin has previously criticized politicians who have been critical of ICE’s operations, emphasizing that ICE officials are risking their lives daily to ensure the safety of communities from the most dangerous criminals.
