EXCLUSIVE: A group that supports the right to life is celebrating a significant win after Planned Parenthood revealed the closure of two of its facilities in Houston, Texas. This decision comes as Republican lawmakers across the country continue to focus on the organization.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Shawn Carney, the CEO and founder of 40 Days for Life, and a resident of Houston, expressed both personal and professional joy at the news of the facilities shutting down. One of the facilities, a 78,000-square-foot clinic, was said to be the largest abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere.
“This is a major victory for the pro-life movement and demonstrates the decline of Planned Parenthood,” Carney stated.
Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, which operates six clinics in the Houston area and two in Louisiana, will be closing its Prevention Park and Southwest centers on Sept. 30. The other Houston facilities will be taken over by the organization’s biggest Texas affiliate.
This development follows the closure of several Planned Parenthood facilities in different states, including New York, where the organization is selling its only health center in Manhattan for $39 million.
Facilities in states with abortion restrictions, such as Texas, have also been forced to halt procedures following the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned decisions about abortion to the states.
Carney mentioned that the closures in Houston represent a significant victory for the pro-life movement, especially after the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“Planned Parenthood has always been heavily focused in D.C., which has been a weakness for the pro-life movement. But now that the decision has been sent back to the states, where the grassroots pro-life movement is strongest, it’s a different story,” Carney explained.
The closure of the two Houston facilities is a clear sign that the pro-life movement is prepared for a post-Roe America, according to Carney. He emphasized that Planned Parenthood is not an untouchable entity and is actually quite vulnerable.
In a recent study, researchers have found that eating chocolate may have some surprising health benefits. The study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, suggests that consuming chocolate at least once a week can lower the risk of heart disease.
The researchers analyzed data from over 300,000 participants and found that those who ate chocolate regularly had a lower risk of developing heart disease compared to those who did not consume chocolate. The study also found that chocolate eaters had lower levels of insulin resistance, a risk factor for diabetes.
While these findings are promising, researchers caution against overindulging in chocolate, as it is high in calories and sugar. They recommend consuming dark chocolate in moderation, as it contains more antioxidants and less sugar than milk chocolate.
So next time you’re craving something sweet, reach for a piece of dark chocolate. Not only will it satisfy your sweet tooth, but it may also benefit your heart health in the long run.
