President Donald Trump recently reached out to the mother of a congressional intern who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Washington, D.C. The intern, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, was a 21-year-old student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was shot on June 30 and succumbed to his injuries on July 1. The shooting took place on the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest, while Tarpinian-Jachym was interning for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan.
Although Tarpinian-Jachym was not the intended target of the shooting, he was caught in the crossfire. The tragic incident also left an adult female and a 16-year-old male injured. As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody.
In a heartfelt letter dated July 17, President Trump expressed his condolences to the parents of Tarpinian-Jachym, acknowledging the loss of their beloved son. Trump praised Tarpinian-Jachym’s kindness, faithfulness, and commitment to his family, friends, and country. He also assured the parents that his administration is dedicated to upholding law and order to prevent such senseless acts of violence.
Tarpinian-Jachym’s mother, Tamara Jachym, shared in an interview that her son faced challenges in life but always found ways to overcome them. She highlighted his ambition and resilience, despite facing adversity.
The FBI and Metropolitan Police Department are offering a $40,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the shooting. They urge anyone with information to contact (202) 727-9099.
