Humans have been using images to communicate since ancient times, such as with Egyptian hieroglyphs. In today’s digital age, this tradition continues with emojis. The Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit organization that oversees the Unicode Standard to ensure emojis are compatible across devices, has introduced Unicode 17.0. This update includes nine new emojis set to launch in the fall of September 2025.
While it may take some time for these emojis to appear on your phone, with widespread availability expected in early 2026, here’s a preview of the new symbols you can anticipate:

Joining the collection of natural disaster emojis is the landslide, representing a powerful geological event. It can be used to warn about danger or describe an avalanche of events.
