Braves and Reds combine for 16 runs in chaotic eighth inning

In a thrilling matchup, the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds combined for 16 runs in a chaotic eighth inning, with the Braves ultimately securing a 12-11 extra-innings victory at Great American Ball Park.

The game was tied 3-3 as the two teams entered the eighth inning. The Braves kicked off the inning with three infield hits and continued their offensive onslaught throughout the frame.

Despite not hitting any home runs, the Braves managed to score eight runs in the top of the eighth inning against four different Reds pitchers.

On the other hand, the Reds relied on the long ball to claw back from an 11-3 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Reds’ offense exploded, with the first eight batters reaching base and hitting two three-run home runs. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Spencer Steer were among the key contributors to the Reds’ comeback.

The eighth inning saw a total of seven pitchers, 25 batters, and 16 hits between the two teams, marking only the third instance in history where both teams scored eight or more runs in the same inning.

The Braves ultimately emerged victorious in extra innings when Marcell Ozuna hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to take a 12-11 lead.

With Braves closer Raisel Iglesias shutting down the Reds in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Braves secured the win.

The game between the Reds (57-53) and the Braves (46-62) marked the beginning of a three-game series, with the next matchup scheduled for Friday at 12:40 p.m. ET.
