Protesters against Israel were taken into custody after entering the lobby of the offices of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in New York City. The NYPD confirmed that arrests were made during an unplanned protest at 780 Third Avenue, where both senators have their NYC offices.

The protesters, wearing black and yellow attire, displayed signs with various messages, including two directly addressing Schumer and Gillibrand, urging them to “stop starving Gaza.” They also chanted “Free, free Palestine, stop the genocide.” Among the demonstrators was actor Sara Ramirez, known for roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “And Just Like That,” according to Reuters.

It is currently unclear how many individuals were arrested, as the NYPD had not provided that information at the time of this report.

Earlier in the week, Schumer released a statement condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“The reports and images from Gaza – showing the extreme levels of hunger, starvation, suffering, and death – are completely unacceptable and highlight the severe human toll of this ongoing conflict that cannot be overlooked,” the statement stated.

“Regardless of the status of negotiations, the Trump administration and the Israeli government must collaborate urgently with established humanitarian and development partners of the United States to enhance the delivery of food, services, and humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. While the Israeli government’s decision to ease some restrictions on aid is a positive step, more action is required,” Schumer added.

On Friday, former President Donald Trump told Axios that he is developing a strategy to provide food assistance to Gaza. The report highlighted the president’s concerns about starvation in Gaza, attributing the issue to Hamas. Additionally, Trump informed Axios that Witkoff was “doing great work,” but he had not yet received a briefing from his special envoy.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also visited aid distribution sites operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by the U.S. and Israel.

“Visited Gaza today [and] witnessed a humanitarian food program by the U.S.-backed GHF. Hamas opposes GHF [because] it provides food to [people without] it being confiscated by Hamas. Over 100 MILLION meals served in 2 months,” Huckabee shared on X. In a separate post, Huckabee praised GHF’s efforts as “an extraordinary accomplishment.”

Huckabee also informed Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade that the situation in Gaza was chaotic due to Hamas. He mentioned witnessing evidence of the terrorist group stealing aid and selling it on the black market. According to Huckabee, a 4-kilogram (8.8-pound) bag of sugar is being sold for as much as $200 on the black market.

Witkoff stated that he and Huckabee spent five hours in Gaza “clarifying the facts on the ground, evaluating conditions, and meeting with [GHF] and other organizations.” He added that the purpose of the visit was to provide President Donald Trump with “a clear understanding of the humanitarian situation and assist in formulating a plan to deliver food and medical aid to the people of Gaza.”
