Ricchetti, Biden’s gatekeeper, defends ex-president in House deposition

Steve Ricchetti was the gatekeeper for former President Biden. House Republican investigators were hoping Ricchetti could provide insight into Mr. Biden’s cognitive state during his time in office.

The House Oversight Committee recently called Ricchetti for a closed-door deposition. Ricchetti has a long history of working in politics, having served as a top aide to President Clinton, Vice President Biden, and as a key advisor in the Biden White House.

During his appearance before the committee, Ricchetti was tight-lipped, simply stating that President Biden was indeed up for the job. While he acknowledged that Biden occasionally stumbled, he maintained that the former president was fit to lead and that no one usurped his Constitutional duties.

Republicans on the committee have raised concerns about Biden’s use of the autopen and the authenticity of legal documents bearing his signature. They are seeking answers about who was truly running the White House during Biden’s tenure.

In addition to Ricchetti, several other Biden administration figures have been summoned for questioning but have refused to provide answers. The investigation into Biden’s cognitive state is seen as crucial by Republicans, who believe it is necessary to understand what steps should be taken if a future President struggles cognitively.

The debate over imposing cognitive standards for lawmakers has also emerged, with Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez introducing a plan requiring such standards for House members. However, there are Constitutional and legal hurdles to implementing such requirements.

Ultimately, the issue of how to handle an impaired President or lawmaker remains complex and challenging. Just as in every walk of life, there are individuals with cognitive impairments serving in government, reflecting the diversity of the country as a whole.
