A linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers, Denzel Perryman, was arrested on weapons charges and is currently in custody, as confirmed by authorities.
During a traffic stop on Friday, Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies found multiple guns in Perryman’s possession.
Law enforcement sources stated that at least two of the guns discovered are considered assault weapons.
“On August 1, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on Los Angeles Chargers football player Denzel Perryman, 32, for vehicle code violations,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
“During the traffic stop, deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman’s vehicle, two of which were assault-style rifles.”

The NFL veteran was cooperative during the traffic stop, according to the incident report.
Perryman was booked on felony charges and is currently being held without bond at the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station.
Ron Butler, Perryman’s agent, stated that they are in contact with legal experts to handle the situation appropriately.

Perryman is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
The team issued a statement saying they are aware of the situation and are gathering information.

Perryman played for the Chargers from 2017-20 and returned to the team in 2024. Perryman also had stints with other NFL teams.
