The suspect, 45-year-old Michael Brown, remains at large as search efforts continue in the Stumptown area, just west of Anaconda. Authorities released a photo of Brown showing him barefoot and shirtless, walking down a flight of steps after the shooting.
It is unclear what led to the shooting. The white F-150 pickup truck in which Brown allegedly fled was located, but Brown was not found in or around the vehicle. The search for Brown has involved air and ground resources in the mountains near Stumptown Road.
Residents in the area have been advised to stay inside their homes and remain vigilant. If anyone sees Brown, they are urged not to approach him and instead call 911 immediately. Brown is described as 5-foot-10, about 170 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
Brown served in the Army from January 2001 to May 2005 and in the National Guard from April 2006 to March 2008, deploying to Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005. He left the service as a sergeant and also served in the Montana National Guard from April 2006 to March 2009.
Law enforcement has not received reports of Brown harming anyone else, but he is considered armed and dangerous. The search for him continues as authorities work to apprehend him.
