NFL worker shot in NY office; warned coworkers before incident

An employee of the NFL was shot in the lobby of an office building in Midtown Manhattan last week. The victim, who was shot in the back, managed to warn his colleagues about the gunman before calling 911 for help. According to reports, many people in the building reached out to their colleagues through text or calls to alert them about the active shooter.

The victim’s call to 911 was one of 113 calls reporting the shooting. The New York Police Department (NYPD) responded promptly, arriving at the scene within four minutes of the first call. Tragically, four people lost their lives, and a fifth individual was injured inside the building, which houses the headquarters of Blackstone and the NFL.

The victims have been identified as NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, Wesley LePatner, Julia Hyman, and Aland Etienne. The perpetrator, Shane Tamura, believed to be from Las Vegas, carried out the shootings before taking his own life.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed staff in a memo that a league employee was seriously injured in the attack and was in stable condition in the hospital.
