President Donald Trump is preparing to sign an executive order to establish a White House Olympics task force dedicated to security and other issues in preparation for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

The task force will consist of members from Trump’s cabinet and various government agencies, as reported by Reuters.

One of the primary goals of the task force is to coordinate the efforts of federal, state, and local governments in the area of transportation. Additionally, they will focus on “streamlining visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” according to an email sent to Reuters.

“During his first term, President Trump played a crucial role in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,” stated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday. “The president sees it as a great privilege to oversee this global sporting event in his second term.”

LA28 chair and president Casey Wasserman expressed that the task force “represents a significant step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not only the largest, but the most remarkable Games the world has ever witnessed in the summer of 2028.”

Wasserman is expected to accompany Trump at the White House for the signing ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

While Canada and Mexico will serve as additional hosts, the United States will be the primary host country for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, a fact that Trump has welcomed with enthusiasm. This will be the first time the tournament is hosted by three nations, with the U.S. hosting 11 of the 16 cities involved and the final set to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

As preparations are made for the 2028 Olympics, security measures will also be put in place for the World Cup, offering some overlap in planning efforts.

Los Angeles has previously hosted two Olympic Games, in 1932 and 1984.

The LA28 Opening Ceremony is scheduled for July 14, 2028, and the games will run until July 30. The LA28 Paralympic Games will commence on August 15, 2028, and conclude on August 27, 2028.
