Head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders, recently shared that he battled bladder cancer earlier this year, which led to surgery resulting in the removal of his bladder.
During this difficult time for the family, as “Coach Prime” was dealing with his health scare, his son Shedeur Sanders was gearing up for his first year in the NFL.
Shedeur, a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in April, opened up about his father’s message to him amid the challenging circumstances the family was facing.

“Dad, he’s one person that — he’ll handle his; we handle what we’ve got to do,” Shedeur shared. “It was like, ‘Y’all need to focus on what y’all could focus on. Y’all can’t sit here and feel sorry for me.’ … At the end of the day, you’re all able to see and you’re all able to understand everything on and off the field that I go through.
“So, then you’ve got to be some type of human at some point in the way I’m doing everything and how I’m handling everything that’s thrown at me. You’ve got no choice but to applaud that.”
Deion Sanders made his health battle public on July 28, confirming the speculations that had been circulating for months. Doctors at the University of Colorado (CU Anshutz) declared him cancer-free following his surgery.

Dr. Janet Kukreja, the urological oncology director at CU Anshutz, stated that the cancer could have spread to the muscle, which is a concerning development in such cases.
“Only about 10% of people live five years, even with our current medical treatment, if it metastasizes,” she added.
Shedeur Sanders’ journey to the NFL has been a rollercoaster, from being a potential first-round draft pick to landing with the Browns in the fifth round. Despite the setbacks, Shedeur is optimistic about his future with Cleveland.

Although Shedeur is currently listed fourth on the Browns’ depth chart, his development is being carefully monitored in training camp. With experienced quarterbacks like Joe Flacco on the roster, Shedeur is focused on improving his skills and making an impact.

Shedeur is eager for the Browns’ first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers this Friday, as he continues to work towards his NFL dreams.
