Sophie Cunningham seems to have not learned her lesson.

After being fined $500 for criticizing referees on TikTok, she was hit with a tripled fine for repeating the offense.

In her podcast, “Show Me Something,” Cunningham suggested that referees make mistakes frequently.

“If I were a ref, I know I would make mistakes all the time. I’m not saying your job is easy, but when it’s a simple call right in front of your face multiple times, what are you doing? What are you doing?” Cunningham expressed.

“They’re just so inconsistent, that’s one thing. If you’re on the other team and fouling me, cool. But let me do it to you… I think players across the league and new fans nationwide are wondering, ‘What’s going on with the refs?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know.’ And fining me $500 won’t change a thing.”

Cunningham foresaw the fine she would receive.

“They fined me $1,500. I’m like, ‘This is just the beginning.’ I’m like, ‘You’re kidding,'” Cunningham shared on the most recent episode of the podcast.

“They emailed our GM, and she pulled me aside and said, ‘Sophie, I need to talk to you,’ in front of everyone. I’m like, ‘What did I do now?’ And just smiled, and she goes, ‘Hey, they’re going to fine you again.’ I said, ‘I even acknowledged that their job was hard.’ I did say that. I said that I wouldn’t be good at it. I did say that. Look at the whole picture. What are we doing? Ugh. But yeah, so I got fined for that,” Cunningham explained.

The Indiana Fever guard is in her seventh WNBA season but has garnered attention since standing up for Caitlin Clark.

Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye and was also pushed to the floor by Marina Mabrey. Cunningham wrapped up Sheldon under the basket on a hard foul in the fourth quarter, resulting in both players being ejected.
