Following a report from the Daily Mail that cited sources close to Steve Bannon indicating he may be considering a 2028 presidential bid, the former chief strategist for Donald Trump responded with just two words.

Bannon simply said, “Trump 2028,” when asked about seeking political advice for a potential run. The report also mentioned Bannon’s private criticisms of Vice President JD Vance, who is considered a top contender for the GOP’s 2028 presidential ticket.

A source within Bannon’s inner circle told the Daily Mail that Bannon has expressed doubts about Vance’s ability to run in 2028.

President Trump recently mentioned that JD Vance would likely be his successor in 2028. He also suggested that Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would make a strong ticket, although he noted it was premature to discuss the matter.

“I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio stated during an interview with Lara Trump.

Bannon’s brief response was reported by the conservative news outlet The National Pulse, which criticized the Daily Mail for its thinly sourced story and accused the article of attempting to create division within the Republican Party.

In previous interviews, Bannon emphasized his support for President Trump and the populist, America First agenda. He dismissed the idea of running for president as “absurd.”

Shortly after Trump’s 2025 inauguration, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a constitutional amendment to allow the president to serve a third and final term.

Although the proposal was referred to the House Judiciary Committee, there has been no further action on it so far.

The official Trump Store continues to sell “TRUMP 2028” merchandise, including a $50 hat, which has fueled speculation about a potential Trump third term campaign.
