Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been taken into custody again for allegedly violating a condition of his $30,000 bond related to a felony assault arrest that occurred in June.

Ward, aged 34, was arrested on Thursday and placed in Montgomery County Jail, as shown by online records. This marks his second arrest in less than two months.

The NFL player’s lawyer, Steve Jackson, informed KPRC that Ward was arrested after testing positive for alcohol, which violated his bail conditions.

“It’s a condition of the bond, and there are specific restrictions such as not being allowed to drink,” the attorney clarified. “Jimmie thought it meant he couldn’t get intoxicated, that having a drink was permissible. There was no contact with the complainant. The court has a strict policy against drinking while on bond, which he was unaware of.”

Jackson made it clear that there were no new allegations against Ward and that the no-contact order had not been breached.

Ward was initially arrested in Texas on June 12 and charged with assaulting a family member by impeding breathing or circulation, a third-degree felony.

The Texans stated at the time that they were aware of reports regarding Ward’s arrest and would refrain from commenting further until they had gathered more information.

Jackson had previously told People that he believed Ward would be vindicated as they continued to investigate the allegations against him.

“We have been aware of the complaining witness for some time and her actions towards Jimmie Ward as well as another high-profile sports figure,” Jackson stated. “It is unfortunate that professional athletes and public figures have to endure situations like this, but it seems to have become commonplace. However, we will thoroughly investigate this woman and her history, and we believe that Jimmie will be vindicated.”

Ward spent a significant portion of his career playing for the San Francisco 49ers. In nine seasons with the team, he recorded seven interceptions and 451 tackles in 106 games.

He became a free agent in the 2023 offseason before signing a two-year, $13 million contract.

Before the start of last season, Ward signed a one-year contract extension worth $10.5 million. During his two seasons with the Texans, Ward participated in 20 games and registered three interceptions and 98 tackles.
