Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett responded to allegations of creating a “toxic” work environment in her office due to her “diva” behavior by suggesting that it signifies her success and hinting that race may play a role in the criticism.

“I know that I have achieved success, honey,” Crockett said in an interview with CBS News, referencing a recent report by the New York Post that accused her of mistreating her staff. Several former staffers claimed she terrorized them, including by verbally abusing them.

“That’s how I view this situation,” the Texas Democrat added. “As Beyonce says, if they’re not talking about you, then you must not be doing anything.”

The New York Post report also claimed that being the center of attention has been Crockett’s main goal since being elected to Congress in 2023.

“The staff feels isolated because she is more focused on getting media appearances rather than addressing local issues in her district,” a source told the outlet. “She’s more interested in getting on ‘The View’ or late-night talk shows.”

In the CBS News interview, Crockett also mentioned the role her skin color plays in the story.

“This is just more slander, more nonsense, more lies,” Crockett stated. “As a young black woman, I face a lot of scrutiny from various angles.”

Crockett emphasized that when people start talking about you, it indicates that you are getting under their skin.

“So I’m not going to back down. There’s a song lyric I like to quote sometimes. It says, ‘Your hate is my motivation, so keep hatin’.’ All it does is inspire me to continue representing the American people loudly and proudly.”

The New York Post report on Crockett, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, alleged that she once reduced a staffer to tears and made staffers drive her short distances in a rented luxury vehicle rather than using their own vehicles.

Crockett is known for her viral criticisms of Trump, calling him a “piece of s***” and an “enemy to the United States.” She often confronts Trump during committee hearings in speeches that gain attention on social media.

Earlier this year, The Atlantic reported that Crockett’s phone lock screen features a picture of herself. When she learned that the outlet was reaching out to her colleagues for comments on a profile piece, she reportedly tried to prevent the story from being published.

“She rarely comes into the office, is very disengaged, and will yell at staff members,” a former aide told The New York Post in the recent story. “She does things that go viral, then gets upset over trivial matters.”
