Deion Sanders Returns to Coaching After Battling Cancer

Former NFL player and current Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders provided an update on his health following his battle with bladder cancer earlier this year.

“I’m healthy, I’m vibrant,” Sanders said Friday at the school’s media day. “I’m my old self.”

Sanders mentioned that he is now walking at least a mile around campus every day after practice. Despite turning 58, Sanders expressed his joy for life and gratitude for his recovery.

“I’m loving life right now,” he said. “I’m trying my best to live it to the fullest, considering what transpired.”

After undergoing bladder removal surgery, Sanders emphasized the importance of regular check-ups for early detection of health issues.

Colorado assistant athletic trainer Lauren Askevold and Dr. Janet Kukreja of UC Health detailed the timeline of Sanders’ diagnosis and treatment.

Following successful surgery, Sanders is now cancer-free and focused on his recovery and well-being.

In a video shared by his son, Sanders reflected on the emotional challenges of facing his mortality and making preparations for the future.

Sanders, known as Coach Prime, has had successful seasons at Colorado, including his son Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy.
