13-year-old revisits Florida Keys reef after shark attack

A young teen is sharing his incredible survival story three years after a shark attack that left him without his right leg below the knee. Jameson Reeder Jr., now 13, was exploring the crystal-clear waters of Looe Key Reef in the Florida Keys with his family when the attack occurred.

The boy’s father, Jameson Reeder Sr., described the terrifying moment when he heard his son screaming after resurfacing from the seabed. The family was shocked to see the extent of Jameson Jr.’s injuries caused by a massive shark that appeared out of nowhere.

Despite the traumatic experience, Jameson Jr. has shown remarkable resilience. His parents have documented their journey in a book titled “Rescue at the Reef: The Miraculous True Story of a Little Boy with Big Faith.” The family has also shared details of the miraculous events that unfolded after the attack, including the assistance of a nurse who appeared out of nowhere to help the injured boy.

Jameson Jr. spent weeks in the hospital undergoing surgeries but remains determined to live life to the fullest. He continues to participate in activities like surfing, baseball, and rock climbing, refusing to let the shark attack define him. In fact, he has even returned to the site of the attack to conquer his fears.

Despite his harrowing experience, Jameson Jr. has developed a newfound appreciation for sharks and even plans to go shark diving without a cage in the future. The Reeder family is planning to revisit the reef on the anniversary of the attack, showcasing their resilience and unwavering faith in the face of adversity.
