Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident when a helicopter collided with a power line and crashed onto a barge in the Mississippi River.
The St. Charles County Police Department in Missouri confirmed the crash occurred on a barge along the Illinois and Missouri border near Alton, Illinois.
Both individuals involved in the crash have been declared deceased, as reported by CCPD spokesperson Cpl. Barry Bales.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
The helicopter involved in the crash was owned by a company that specializes in power line services, although the specific company has not been confirmed yet, according to Bales.
The work being carried out at the time of the accident involved the installation, replacement, and maintenance of marker balls on power lines to alert aircraft of their presence.
Fortunately, there were no other injuries or fatalities reported.
