Authorities in Virginia have released surveillance footage showing the moment a young child was reportedly taken by a 26-year-old man at a shopping center.
The Fairfax County Police Department reported that a toddler wandered away from the indoor play area at the Fair Oaks Shopping Center in Fair Oaks, Virginia, around 11:45 a.m. on July 18. The child was allegedly seized by 26-year-old Andres Caceres Jaldin, as per FOX 5.
The parents of the child located Jaldin on the mall’s second floor and successfully retrieved their daughter.
According to authorities, Jaldin fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after at the Extended Stay hotel in Chantilly, Virginia. Prior to the alleged abduction, Jaldin reportedly stole a vehicle from an auto shop.
The surveillance video released by law enforcement shows Jaldin approaching the child, picking her up, and walking away.
Jaldin is facing charges of abduction of a minor and grand larceny.
He was taken into custody by police as he exited his hotel room.
Jaldin is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
