During a San Francisco 49ers training camp, a player was involved in a collision that resulted in them being taken to the hospital.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that defensive end Tarron Jackson was hospitalized after the incident. Despite being conscious and showing movement in his extremities, he was transferred to Stanford Hospital for further assessment.

Reporters observing the practice witnessed Jackson hitting the ground forcefully after a block and not getting back up. Trainers attended to him, and eventually, he was placed on a backboard and taken off the field.

Jackson, striving to secure a spot on the 49ers’ roster, had recently joined their practice squad on a one-year, $1.1 million contract.

However, Jackson’s injury has raised doubts about his chances of making it to the 53-man roster.

Jackson would have been entering his fourth NFL season if he had the opportunity to play. Originally a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021, he appeared in 21 games for the team after a successful collegiate career at Coastal Carolina.

During his rookie season, Jackson came off the bench to record 18 tackles and one sack in 17 games. He only appeared in four games in 2022 before being released by the Eagles midway through the season.

He then joined the Eagles’ practice squad, where he remained through the 2023 season. In 2024, Jackson signed with the Carolina Panthers.

He played three games for the Panthers last season, but was limited to 28 defensive snaps and 21 special teams plays.

Having signed with the San Francisco 49ers in January, the 27-year-old was hoping to make a strong impression and secure a spot on the team for the upcoming season.
