“Grey’s Anatomy” actress Camilla Luddington recently shared her experience with a personal health challenge that left her feeling confused, exhausted, and struggling to function normally.
Luddington, best known for her role as Dr. Jo Wilson on the popular medical drama, disclosed that she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that significantly impacted her physical and emotional well-being.
During an episode of her podcast “Call It What It Is,” Luddington revealed that she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, a common autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid gland, leading to symptoms like fatigue, muscle weakness, and joint pain.
Describing her condition, Luddington explained, “Hashimoto’s is when your body’s immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid, causing a slowdown in hormone production, which affects your energy levels.”
She also shared her confusion about sudden swelling in her face and hands prior to the diagnosis, indicating the severity of her symptoms.
Despite the challenges, Luddington found solace in the diagnosis as it provided validation for her health concerns and paved the way for a treatment plan to manage the disorder.
Reflecting on her journey, Luddington acknowledged the difficulties but expressed gratitude for the support and medical guidance she has received.
While the road ahead may be tough, Luddington remains optimistic about managing her condition and regaining her health.
Representatives for Luddington have not yet responded to requests for comment.
