Authorities in Arkansas have charged a 28-year-old schoolteacher with the murder of a married couple who were hiking with their children at Devil’s Den State Park. The suspect, Andrew James McGann, was apprehended in a nearby city following a multi-day search.

Arkansas State Police (ASP) arrested McGann at a barbershop in Springdale on Wednesday. It was reported that he was getting a haircut at the time of his arrest.

McGann faces two counts of capital murder in connection to the deaths of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, who were found deceased on a walking trail at Devil’s Den. Their daughters, aged 7 and 9, were unharmed and are now under the care of family members.

“We do not tolerate violent crime in Arkansas. If you harm innocent individuals, law enforcement will pursue you and ensure justice is served,” stated Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

McGann, a former teacher in Oklahoma, had recently resigned from his position and was preparing to start a new job in Arkansas. The superintendent of Springdale Public Schools confirmed that McGann had not yet had any contact with students or their families.

The tragic incident occurred as the Brinks family, who had recently moved to Arkansas, were exploring Devil’s Den State Park with their young daughters. Authorities discovered the bodies of the couple on a remote hiking trail, while their daughters were physically unharmed but emotionally traumatized.

The motive behind the killings is still under investigation, and autopsy results are pending. The suspect, McGann, was described by ASP as wearing specific clothing and accessories at the time of the incident.

Col. Mike Hagar of the State Police referred to the suspect as a “monster” and commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in capturing him. McGann is expected to appear in court on Friday.

Devil’s Den State Park, located northwest of Little Rock, offers visitors a remote and picturesque setting with hiking trails and unique rock formations.
