The Chicago Bears’ quarterback, Caleb Williams, is heading into a crucial second season without feeling any pressure.

Williams, 23, guided the Bears to a 4-2 start before enduring a losing streak of 10 games.

The losing streak led to the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus with five games left in the season. Eberflus’ dismissal marked the first time the Bears fired a head coach midseason.

The team brought in Ben Johnson, who had been the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions’ high-powered offense since 2022, as their new head coach. Johnson, known for his offensive-minded approach, was hired to help unleash Williams’ potential.

Williams aims to become the first Bears quarterback to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season and complete 70% of his passes this season. Despite his goals, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick expresses no pressure to achieve them.

“Pressure doesn’t affect me,” Williams stated on ESPN 1000’s “Waddle & Silvy.”

“I don’t view it that way. It’s not my responsibility to worry about external opinions. My focus is on handling everything internally and performing.”

“I know we didn’t achieve as many wins as we desired last year, but I didn’t record 20 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. So, you can interpret it how you wish, but I don’t feel pressured; pressure is a privilege, and I understand the circumstances I’m in. I don’t perceive it as pressure.”

Despite the Bears’ struggles in the previous season, Williams’ performance has given hope to Bears’ fans that he could be the long-awaited franchise quarterback.

Williams started all 17 games, completing 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Although he fell short of his goals last season, Williams does not sense pressure to achieve his new objectives for this season.
