Former President Joe Biden’s campaign team reportedly decided against a Super Bowl interview last year due to the special counsel Robert Hur’s report, as per Fox News Digital.
According to a source familiar with Anita Dunn’s interview with the House Oversight Committee, Hur’s report, which described Biden as an “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” influenced Biden’s team to break from the long-standing tradition.
The source close to Dunn mentioned that Biden’s team chose to skip the Super Bowl interview in 2023 because they believed the main focus would be on his handling of classified records rather than his policy decisions. This decision was allegedly made before Hur’s report was made public.
During Dunn’s over five-hour interview with House investigators, she reportedly stated that Biden’s inner circle collectively agreed that he should not undergo a cognitive test as they deemed it would not provide any political advantage.
In a separate development, ex-deputy White House chief of staff Bruce Reed, who met with House investigators, indicated that Biden’s White House physician considered cognitive tests as “meaningless.”
Dunn informed investigators that she was not aware of Biden’s stutter until media coverage in 2020 highlighted it.
The practice of pre-Super Bowl interviews began in 2004 with former President George W. Bush, followed by former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump. However, Biden participated in Super Bowl interviews in 2021 and 2022 but opted out in 2023 and 2024.
Hur’s report, released on Feb. 8, 2024, revealed that Biden retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency. However, Hur concluded that it would be challenging to convict Biden due to his age and memory issues.
Anita Dunn is the tenth ex-Biden administration official to appear before the House Oversight Committee as they probe alleged cover-ups and autopen approvals without Biden’s knowledge.
Dunn defended Biden’s mental acuity during her testimony, stating that decisions ultimately rested with him. The House Oversight Committee criticized Dunn’s statement, accusing her of defending Biden’s presidency despite evidence to the contrary.
