The Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to seven games on Friday night with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the New York Mets at American Family Field.

In the ninth inning with two outs, the Mets had the tying run, Starling Marte, on second base and Jeff McNeil at the plate

McNeil’s line drive single into center field off Brewers’ closer Trevor McGill brought Marte charging towards home plate.

Center fielder Blake Perkins fielded the ball and made a perfect one-hop throw to catcher William Contreras, who tagged Marte out just before he reached home plate, securing the win for the Brewers.

Both Contreras and Megill celebrated the out call enthusiastically, with home plate umpire Will Little confirming the play.

“A tremendous throw on one bounce, so you have to give him credit over there,” Marte said through an interpreter, according to the New York Post.

The Mets got off to a strong start with Juan Soto hitting a solo home run in the first inning and Marte adding another solo homer in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.

However, those were the only runs the Mets scored as Brewers’ pitcher Brandon Woodruff settled in, pitching seven innings and striking out eight batters.

The Brewers tied the game in the fifth inning when Brice Turang hit a two-run homer off Mets’ pitcher Kodai Senga.

The Brewers took the lead in the same inning when Isaac Collins was hit by a pitch, scoring a run to make it 3-2.

While the Brewers continued their winning streak, the Mets extended their losing streak to five games.

The two teams will face off again in the second game of their series on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
