Angel Reese, the standout player for the Chicago Sky, is on the brink of a suspension from the WNBA due to accumulating technical fouls.
Reese has already racked up seven technical fouls in the first 22 games of the season, leaving her just one foul away from the threshold that triggers a one-game suspension according to WNBA rules.
Her seventh technical foul of the season was incurred during the first quarter of a recent game against the Lynx, following an off-camera interaction with referees that led to a common foul being called against her.
Currently, Reese leads all players in the WNBA this season with seven technical fouls, as reported by Across the Timeline. Shakira Austin of the Washington Mystics is in second place with five technical fouls.
Reese’s first technical foul of the season came in the season opener against the Indiana Fever, in a game that also featured her longtime rival Caitlin Clark. The tension between the two players escalated, resulting in a heated confrontation that led to a series of fouls and technical calls.
If Reese receives an eighth technical foul and is subsequently suspended, she would forfeit her game check for that match. Reese has been vocal about the financial challenges faced by WNBA players, especially in light of recent negotiations with the player’s union over a new collective bargaining agreement.
Reese made headlines during the WNBA All-Star game when she criticized the WNBA for what she deemed a “disrespectful” proposal sent to the players during negotiations. She emphasized the importance of speaking out and advocating for fair treatment.
Last October, Reese candidly discussed her financial struggles in an Instagram live video, revealing the difficulties of making ends meet on her WNBA salary.
