Chip and Joanna Gaines have recently prioritized their fitness.
In a recent episode of the “Stronger” podcast hosted by Don Saladino, the couple shared their journey of starting to work out together. Joanna expressed surprise that despite knowing each other for nearly 25 years, they had never exercised together before.
“I realized that we had never even discussed working out together. It’s crazy,” Joanna said. “Chip trained for a marathon, but I was pregnant at the time. We never had a conversation about doing fitness together.”
Chip also mentioned that after 25 years together, it was surprising that they had never broached the topic of working out together.
“I would take on a fitness challenge, and you would support me through it, but we never started working out together,” Chip added. “I thought we would have introduced that idea into our routine at some point.”
Everything changed when Joanna reached out to Saladino, a fitness entrepreneur and coach known for training celebrities and athletes.
Joanna realized the importance of investing time in her wellness routine and decided to take action after seeing her parents face health issues as they aged.
In an Instagram post from January 2025, Joanna shared a video of her and Chip working out together in the gym. She mentioned that they had decided to start working out together for the first time in their marriage in September. Despite starting with difficulties due to a back injury, Joanna celebrated her progress of being able to do fifty push-ups.
During their podcast conversation with Saladino, Joanna and Chip talked about the challenges of comparing themselves to their younger selves. Joanna admitted to being motivated by the idea of regaining her teenage physique, but working with Saladino helped her focus on progress.
Chip also shared his struggles with comparing himself to his younger self and emphasized the importance of showing up even when things get challenging.
