An unexpected gesture was made by Colorado’s Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) team.

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) granted an expansion team to Denver. During the process of selecting a name, colors, and crest for the new team, the Colorado Summit decided to “pass the torch.” A survey of over 50,000 fans was conducted, and the Summit emerged as the most popular choice among supporters.

The decision led to the rebranding of the NWSL team as Denver Summit FC. The inaugural season of this new soccer club is set to begin in 2026.

The crest of the soccer team features dark green mountains against a backdrop of a red-orange and golden sunset. The choice of reddish-orange was inspired by the dramatic sunsets often seen across Colorado, according to the Summit.

Sal Pace, co-owner of Colorado Summit, emphasized the collaborative nature of the decision and expressed enthusiasm about the next chapter for the frisbee franchise.

In a statement, the Colorado Summit described the decision as a “rare” moment of sportsmanship.

The franchise is now seeking a new name for the frisbee team. To gather fan input, a contest has been launched where fans can suggest and vote on names over the coming weeks. Finalists will be announced soon, with the winning name revealed before the next season begins.

Colorado’s playoff journey continues this Saturday with a matchup against the Oakland Spiders professional frisbee club.
