The Dallas Cowboys made a significant move in the offseason by acquiring Joe Milton from the New England Patriots to provide additional depth behind their starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the upcoming 2025 season.

Milton had positive things to say about his new teammates in Dallas while also subtly criticizing the environment in the Patriots’ locker room. The Patriots had chosen Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, where he was part of a quarterback group with Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett under head coach Jerod Mayo.

“Dak is a great leader. All respect to him. He literally goes out of his way to help me, no matter if the coach is talking in the meeting, he literally goes out of his way to help. I’ve been in another building. I know how that goes. It’s just very different over here,” Milton said in an interview with The Athletic.

Milton expressed his preference for a fresh start with a new team, a decision that was facilitated by his agent and team management.

During his time with the Patriots last season, Milton played in only one game, showcasing his potential with 241 passing yards and a touchdown pass.

He is expected to serve as the backup quarterback behind Prescott for the upcoming season, with Will Grier as the third-string QB.

Prescott’s health will be a key factor for the Cowboys, as he was limited to eight games in 2024.
