Shedeur Sanders, currently fourth string on the unofficial Browns depth chart, is set to start their first preseason game on Friday night.

With injuries sidelining Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, Sanders is expected to take the lead as the quarterback against the Carolina Panthers, as reported by Cleveland.com.

Sanders, the son of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field when the Browns play on Friday night.

Sanders expressed his desire for his father not to attend practice until he earns first-team reps. He acknowledged the challenges of having an NFL legend as a father, balancing the benefits of support with potential distractions.

Sanders, a fifth-round pick, will be leading the Browns’ offense in the preseason opener, with head coach Kevin Stefanski opting to protect starter Joe Flacco from injury. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will be available to relieve Sanders.

Despite limited practice reps with the first-team defense, Sanders has impressed with his accuracy, a skill he honed while playing for his father. He is eager to prove himself on the NFL stage after slipping in the draft.

Although sidelined briefly with arm soreness, Sanders is expected to be fully ready for the game, eager to demonstrate his talent to the Browns and the NFL.
