EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif., responded to comments from a Democratic opponent who referred to her as an “ESL puppet” while criticizing the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

“My experience is not unique. It reflects the stories of many Korean Americans and immigrants nationwide who are proud Americans and contribute to our communities every day. I take pride in my accent and will continue to use my voice to safeguard the American dream for future generations,” Kim stated in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

“It is disappointing to see a child of Korean immigrants relocating to a district two hours away to repeat race-baiting, anti-immigrant insults aimed at a fellow Korean American. Young Kim is the most effective federal lawmaker from California and consistently demonstrates that she is an independent advocate for her community,” said Callie Strock, campaign spokesperson for Kim.

Esther Kim Varet, a Democrat, posted screenshots from a National Republican Campaign Committee post that labeled Kim Varet as “radical,” “anti-ICE,” and a supporter of “fringe conspiracy theories.”

The post also featured screenshots of news articles highlighting the challenges faced by Asian immigrants, including deportation issues as ICE intensifies deportation efforts.

In her post, Kim Varet attacked Rep. Kim, saying, “You’re a power-hungry Korean-born immigrant who has betrayed hard-working immigrants. You and your husband are the biggest GRIFTERS representing the swamp. You sicken me [Rep. Kim].” The comments quickly gained attention from the NRCC as it focuses on competitive House races.

The ongoing ICE operations in California remain a topic of intense debate. While most Republicans argue that these efforts are crucial for public safety, others are concerned about the impact on immigrant communities.

“Unhinged Democrat Esther Kim Varet is a hate-filled bigot who epitomizes the worst of today’s political discourse. Californians will reject this extremist who is unfit to represent them in Congress,” stated NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez.

In response to the NRCC’s remarks, Varet told Fox News Digital, “It seems typical that national Republicans can’t distinguish between Asians.”

The race for California congressional seats in 2026 may involve redrawing district lines. However, the fate of redistricting is still uncertain nationwide. Kim could find herself in another closely contested race after President Donald Trump narrowly won the district in 2024. In the November election, Kim defeated Democrat Joe Kerr by more than 40,000 votes.

Kim Varet is among several candidates in a competitive Democratic field vying to challenge the Republican incumbent in the general election, according to Politico. Cook Political Report has classified the race as “Lean Republican.”
