At a conference in Mexico City, several House Democrats, including members of the “Squad,” expressed criticism towards the United States over the weekend, questioning U.S. influence and policies. One lawmaker even stated that she was prouder to be Guatemalan than American.
The second annual Panamerican Congress brought together leftist officials from North and South America. Among the attendees were Democratic lawmakers such as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Summer Lee, Jesús Gilberto García, and Delia Ramirez. All of whom are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

During the event, Ramirez criticized the Trump administration’s approach towards illegal immigration and emphasized her Guatemalan roots. She accused the U.S. of focusing on imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, and competition in its pursuit of dominance.
On her official website, Ramirez, who is the child of immigrant parents, revealed that her husband is in the country illegally. She is known as the only congressional lawmaker in a mixed-status marriage and advocates for the rights of DREAMers like her husband, Boris, as well as comprehensive immigration reform.
The White House denounced the statements made by Ramirez and her fellow Democrats, calling them despicable and highlighting their prioritization of American interests. In contrast, the White House spokesperson emphasized President Trump’s efforts to secure peace deals, deport illegal alien criminals, and advance America’s interests.

Efforts to reach out to Ramirez’s office and the lawmakers who attended the summit by Fox News Digital were underway. The discussion at the summit also touched on the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia’s deputy minister of multilateral affairs, praised Tlaib as a symbol of resistance during his speech, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.
The summit was organized by the leader of Progressive International, a radical left-wing group that views capitalism as a virus that must be eradicated. The event was held in partnership with Morena, Mexico’s ruling left-wing party.
Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Mexican Senate and member of Morena, criticized the persecution of migrants in the U.S. during the Trump administration, calling it unjust and infamous. He highlighted the harsh treatment faced by migrants and emphasized the need for a more humane approach.
David Adler, the general coordinator for Progressive International, mentioned in a TV interview that the summit aimed to address authoritarian and fascist threats and shift authority from Washington, D.C. to developing countries in the Global South.

The U.S. was described as the lynchpin of imperial violence by Progressive International due to its military installations overseas and massive Pentagon budget. The group emphasized the need to end U.S. militarism to save lives around the world.
