At a recent panel hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), leaders discussed their close collaboration with Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, and their goal to “seize state power.”
During a panel discussion titled “United Struggles: Resistance to Bodily Autonomy Restrictions,” DSA organizer Daniel Goulden revealed the organization’s deep involvement in Mamdani’s campaign, even assisting in drafting parts of his platform.
The clips were initially discovered by Stu Smith of the Manhattan Institute.
“With Zohran, we’re in a prime position to seize state power because, you know, we’re like this,” Goulden said, illustrating with his fingers the close relationship between the campaign and the organization.
Goulden further suggested that “one of the key factors contributing to Zohran’s success in rolling out policies is his reliance on DSA.”
“DSA has regular meetings with him, as well as his team. His policy director is a friend of mine. I’ve been collaborating with his campaign manager for over a year. You know? I have friends who work for him,” he stated.
Goulden claimed that DSA worked closely with Mamdani on his “trans rights” platform, aiming to utilize city resources to provide free transgender treatments not only to New Yorkers but to individuals across the nation.
“We helped write the platform with him. The team was very receptive to working with us on this,” he explained. “Our explicit goal was to leverage the power of New York City to offer free gender-affirming care – and I emphasize ‘free’ in case insurance companies try to block us – not only to people in New York City but nationwide.”
New York City could potentially use its resources to offer transgender treatments to individuals from other cities and states, even in places where such treatments are prohibited, Goulden suggested.
“There’s no reason why we can’t utilize telehealth and mail prescriptions to individuals nationwide to circumvent state bans,” he proposed.
“The Zohran campaign was always open to collaborating with us. We have a strong connection,” he said, gesturing with his fingers.
According to Mamdani’s campaign website, his administration aims to make NYC an LGBTQIA+ Sanctuary City and allocate $65 million in city funds to expand access to gender-affirming care.
The website details plans to allocate $57 million to various healthcare providers for transgender treatments and allocate $8 million to support pro-transgender treatment organizations in response to the proposed elimination of federal transgender treatment funding by the Trump administration.
Fox News Digital contacted Mamdani for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
