EXCLUSIVE: The Attorney General, Pam Bondi, instructed her team on Monday to take action on a criminal referral from the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, regarding an alleged conspiracy to link President Donald Trump to Russia. As a result, the Department of Justice has initiated a grand jury investigation into the matter, as reported by Fox News Digital.

Bondi personally directed a federal prosecutor to commence legal proceedings, with the prosecutor expected to present evidence to a grand jury. This step could potentially lead to an indictment, according to a letter from Bondi and a source familiar with the investigation.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation but emphasized that Bondi is treating Gabbard’s referral with utmost seriousness. The spokesperson stated that Bondi sees a clear cause for concern and is determined to take appropriate action.

The Department of Justice acknowledged receiving a criminal referral from Gabbard two weeks ago. The referral included a memorandum highlighting the suppression of intelligence related to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. It called for an investigation by the DOJ.

No charges have been filed against any individuals at this stage of the investigation.

The decision to move forward with a grand jury probe follows Gabbard’s declassification of intelligence in July, shedding light on the Obama administration’s alleged belief that Russia aimed to assist Trump in the 2016 election.

Former President Barack Obama and his intelligence officials are accused of promoting a false narrative of Russian interference in the 2016 election to benefit President Trump. Gabbard highlighted this during a press briefing on the declassified intelligence.

One of the declassified documents revealed a meeting record indicating that Obama requested an intelligence assessment in December 2016, after Trump’s victory, detailing Russia’s actions during the election. The assessment confirmed that Russia’s actions did not impact the election outcome but aimed to sow distrust in the democratic process.

Gabbard has alleged that Obama and his officials laid the groundwork for a narrative suggesting collusion between Trump and Russia. This narrative led to FBI and special counsel investigations during Trump’s presidency.

It remains uncertain who the grand jury will target and what charges may be pursued, considering the statutes of limitations for the activities in question have likely expired.

Former Obama intelligence officials, such as John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey, have faced scrutiny for their alleged involvement in undermining Trump’s victory in 2016.
