FBI probes death on Carnival Dream cruise ship

The FBI is currently investigating a death that occurred onboard the Carnival Dream cruise ship. According to a spokesperson from the FBI’s Houston Office, the incident took place on Wednesday, July 23, while the ship was near Belize City on a 6-day Western Caribbean voyage. The Carnival Dream later returned to Galveston, Texas, on Saturday.

The FBI is working in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and the cruise line to investigate the incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further details were provided.

A Carnival spokesperson confirmed the death and mentioned that it is standard practice for the FBI to review deaths on cruise ships. The spokesperson also emphasized that the review does not automatically imply suspicious circumstances.

Passengers onboard the Carnival Dream reported being awoken by sirens around 3 or 4 a.m. on the day of the incident. One traveler heard an announcement requesting medical assistance on the adults-only Serenity Deck.

The Carnival Dream, which can accommodate up to 3,646 guests, made two stops in Mexico during the voyage. The ship is scheduled to dock in Key West, Florida, as part of a trip to the Bahamas.

The FBI is the primary federal agency authorized to investigate potential crimes at sea. Passengers and crew members are cooperating with the authorities as the investigation continues.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
