Florida’s Attorney General, James Uthmeier, has encouraged individuals to inform his office if their former partner is residing in the U.S. illegally.
“We recently received a tip from someone whose abusive ex-partner overstayed a tourist visa. As a result, he is facing deportation. If your ex is unlawfully present in the country, please do not hesitate to contact our office for assistance,” Uthmeier shared.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security retweeted Uthmeier’s message and provided the phone number for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tip line.
Uthmeier assumed office as Florida’s Attorney General earlier this year, following his appointment by Governor Ron DeSantis.
The governor had the opportunity to appoint Uthmeier because he selected Ashley Moody to replace Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate. Rubio vacated his Senate seat after being appointed as Secretary of State by President Donald Trump.
“Florida is leading the way in assisting the Trump administration with enforcing federal immigration laws,” Uthmeier stated in a recent post.
“Great job, FHP!” he commended.
This praise came after he retweeted a post from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which reported the arrest of 6 Guatemalan nationals during a traffic stop in Martin County.
