A Florida convict who had been evading authorities for more than two years on an attempted first-degree murder charge was apprehended on Saturday after assaulting a police officer while attempting to escape.
The Winter Haven Public Safety Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old D’Architray L. Sapp, who now faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, in addition to warrants for attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Police were called to an apartment complex around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday following a report of an individual with an outstanding warrant at the location.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Sapp, who fled into an apartment upon spotting them.

After confirming Sapp’s presence in the apartment, officers evacuated the innocent occupants and attempted to detain Sapp, who resisted arrest and pushed a female officer to the ground.
Despite commands to stop, Sapp continued to flee, prompting officers to deploy electronic stun guns to subdue him.

Following his arrest, Sapp was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then transported to the Polk County Jail for processing.
The officer who was shoved by Sapp did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
Sapp faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing from authorities, providing false information to a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, and criminal mischief.

Police Chief Vance Monroe commended the officers for ensuring Sapp was taken into custody safely, stating, “I am grateful that our officers were unharmed during the encounter with this dangerous felon. Our team acted diligently to remove Sapp from the streets and bring him to justice.”
