Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll commended the soldiers at Fort Stewart for their acts of heroism during a recent shooting at the base.

Driscoll specifically mentioned six soldiers who bravely put themselves in danger during the attack, which resulted in five people being shot. He highlighted one soldier, who remains unnamed, for tackling the alleged shooter, U.S. Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford.

“The quick actions of these soldiers, in the midst of stress, trauma, and gunfire, undoubtedly prevented loss of lives,” Driscoll stated, praising their heroic efforts.

Driscoll also mentioned that a second soldier jumped on top of Radford and the other soldier after the initial tackle, while the remaining four soldiers promptly assisted the injured victims.

He emphasized, “These American soldiers exemplify the values of the Army and its longstanding service to the nation.” Driscoll noted that this year marks the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, highlighting its unwavering commitment to protecting American citizens during challenging times.

As for the soldiers who were shot in the incident, three have been discharged from the hospital, while the other two remain in stable condition but face a longer recovery process.

Radford, the apprehended suspect, is a 28-year-old automated logistics sergeant assigned to the ABCT. The Army revealed that Radford, originally from Jacksonville, Florida, enlisted as an Automated Logistical Specialist in January 2018.

The Army clarified that Radford has never been deployed and is currently in pre-trial confinement following his arrest.
