Gary Busey admits to a sex crime
At 81 years old, Busey pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact in relation to an incident at the Monster-Mania Convention on August 13, 2022.
“It was not an accidental touching,” Busey stated in court on Thursday, as reported by Court TV. The actor’s other charges were dropped. Previously, Busey had faced two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree and one count of attempted criminal sexual contact. He now confronts one to five years of probation along with fines.

Busey’s defense attorney, Blair Zwillman, informed People magazine that Busey had to acknowledge the offense as non-consensual for the judge to accept the guilty plea.
“This was the best outcome for him. He’s relieved to move past this. He is essentially a family man. He is not a criminal,” Zwillman said.
Initially, Busey denied the sexual misconduct allegations that emerged in 2022. “No, I don’t carry any regrets with me ever. None of that happened.”
According to Busey, there were “a partner and a camera lady, and me and two girls were the only ones in there.” He claimed the whole incident “lasted less than 10 seconds, and they departed. Then they fabricated a story that I sexually assaulted them, which is untrue.”

The “Buddy Holly” star insisted, “Nothing happened. Nothing. It was all false.”
When asked if there was a possibility that Busey had unknowingly behaved inappropriately, he responded, “No, not inappropriate at all. I have eyewitnesses there.”

Monster-Mania released a statement at the time, mentioning that they were cooperating with authorities in investigating an alleged incident involving attendees and a celebrity guest.
“Upon receiving a complaint from the attendees, the celebrity guest was removed from the convention and instructed not to return. Monster-Mania also advised the attendees to contact the police to file a report,” the statement read.
