SummerSlam will be taking place in the New York and New Jersey area over the weekend as the WWE show makes history with its first-ever two-night event.

The exciting live event is scheduled to occur at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The first night features a lineup with three championship matches, a performance by a country music star, and the return of Roman Reigns to the ring.

Here’s a preview of what to expect on the first night of SummerSlam.

Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship

CM Punk has dubbed himself as the “best in the world” in the realm of pro wrestling. Despite his return to WWE, various setbacks like injuries, bad luck, and rivalries with Seth Rollins have prevented him from achieving his ultimate goal of winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk secured his title shot after winning a gauntlet match on “Monday Night Raw.”

Gunther has held the championship since reclaiming it from Jey Uso months after his loss at WrestleMania 41. He emerged victorious against Goldberg during their Saturday Night’s Main Event clash and now faces the challenge of taking on Punk, who is arguably his toughest opponent in a long time.

When these two step into the ring for the main event, it will undoubtedly be a clash of titans.

While Seth Rollins has been out of the spotlight since his injury during a match against LA Knight, there are speculations about whether he might make a surprise appearance to thwart Punk’s championship aspirations.

Tiffany Stratton has overcome every challenge thrown her way so far. She defeated Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 41, Nia Jax in a Last Woman Standing match, and Trish Stratus at Evolution. She has been on a winning streak but faces her toughest test yet in Jade Cargill.

Cargill emerged victorious in the Queen of the Ring Tournament and opted to go head-to-head with Stratton. This marks her first opportunity to contend for a singles title after defeating Naomi in a No Holds Barred match at Evolution.

Both Stratton and Cargill are among the top female athletes on the SmackDown roster, making either of them deserving of holding the championship by the end of the night.

Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul

Jelly Roll stood by Randy Orton’s side during the showdown against Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He played a crucial role in the match by distracting McIntyre and enabling Orton to seize the opportunity. As Paul was pummeling Orton, Jelly intervened and knocked Paul down. In a surprising turn of events, McIntyre delivered a Claymore kick to Jelly.

This incident marked a turning point in the ongoing feud between the two duos, leading up to their showdown at SummerSlam. Jelly Roll even revealed his Black Hole Slam move, hinting at the potential havoc he could unleash on McIntyre and Paul.

Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

The unexpected alliance of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has resonated well with the WWE audience. Flair came to Bliss’s aid during an attack at Evolution, and Bliss returned the favor by intervening when Raquel Rodriguez targeted Flair during an episode of “Friday Night SmackDown.”

While they may not be friends yet, the duo has earned a shot at the tag team titles and could potentially emerge as the champions by the end of the night.

However, Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez are determined to retain their titles. Rodriguez initially held the belt with Liv Morgan until Perez stepped in due to Morgan’s injury. The duo successfully defended the titles at Evolution and now have the opportunity to solidify their dominance by defeating the seasoned veterans Bliss and Flair.

Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross

The rivalry between Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn has been brewing for months and will reach its climax on the first night of SummerSlam. Zayn outperformed Kross at Night of Champions in June, but Kross managed to defeat Zayn in a recent encounter.

Kross has been adamant in his belief that Zayn will never become a world champion, while Zayn has been focused on his title pursuit, attempting to put Kross in his rearview mirror. However, Kross’s relentless attacks have hindered Zayn’s quest for a championship opportunity, which ultimately went to Punk.

The outcome of this match will force one of them to acknowledge the other’s superiority – a win for Kross means Zayn admitting defeat, whereas a victory for Zayn would prove Kross wrong.

Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed

It has been a considerable amount of time since Roman Reigns last competed in a match. In his previous appearance, Paul Heyman’s interference led to his defeat against Rollins in a triple threat match that also included Punk at WrestleMania 41.

Reigns returned to aid Jey Uso following an attack by Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. This set the stage for a monumental tag-team matchup at SummerSlam.

Reed and Breakker gained the upper hand on “Monday Night Raw.” Reed incapacitated Uso while Breakker speared Reigns through a barricade and even took his shoes as a trophy.

Expect an intense showdown when these four competitors step into the ring.
