House Republicans have put forth a proposal to rename the Opera House at the Kennedy Center after first lady Melania Trump.
The Appropriations Committee of the House Republicans approved an amendment in a 33-25 vote on an annual spending bill to change the name of the opera house at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.”
Melania Trump holds the position of honorary chairman of the board of trustees at the Kennedy Center.
“This is a wonderful way to acknowledge her dedication and support for promoting the arts,” stated Rep. Michael Simpson-R-Id.
Efforts to reach out to The Kennedy Center and the White House by Fox News Digital have been made.
This move follows President Trump’s decision to appoint himself as chairman of the Kennedy Center and dismiss several board members.
He mentioned that he and then-chair David Rubenstein had different visions for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture, as reported on Truth Social.
President Trump expressed his opposition to the Drag Shows targeting youth that were featured at the Kennedy Center last year and vowed to put an end to them.
The Opera House at the Kennedy Center is described as the second-largest theater in the center, accommodating 2,347 seats.
The center’s website highlights the Opera House’s history of hosting world-renowned dance and opera companies, as well as significant artistic events over the past 25 years.
The Opera House is also the venue for the prestigious annual Kennedy Center Honors, which recognizes lifetime achievement in the arts.
