The inquest record reviewed by Fox News Digital revealed that Baldock had a significantly enlarged heart, making him susceptible to heart arrhythmias. The Mayo Clinic defines heart arrhythmias as irregular heartbeats that can range from harmless to life-threatening.
Baldock’s death was ruled an accident. The soccer player, who had previously played for the Greek national team, was discovered in the swimming pool of his residence in Attica, Greece on Oct. 9. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, first responders were unable to revive him.
Born in England, Baldock played for Sheffield United for seven seasons, three of which were in the Premier League. He had recently signed with Panathinaikos Football Club in Greece and made one appearance for the club just days before his untimely death. Baldock had also represented Greece in 12 matches, with his last appearance being in a game against Georgia in March during the Euro 2024 playoffs.
The Greek Soccer Federation expressed their condolences, stating, “There are no words to describe the human pain caused by the news of the untimely loss of one of our young people. This moment calls for silence. Condolences to his family. Condolences from his second family. Goodbye.”
